On July 18, 2025, Catalyst Foundation, through our dynamic E.A.G.E.R.S. sports programme, hosted an Inter-School Ball Games Tournament that was nothing short of spectacular. This was a truly historic event, marking the first tournament of its kind in Chibombo, and its success has left an indelible mark on the community and its young participants.
E.A.G.E.R.S., standing for Empowering African Girls Through Education, Recreation and Sport, isn’t just about playing games; it’s about cultivating these vital qualities in African youth through the power of sport. And what a display of these values we witnessed!
A Day of Unforgettable Action and Empowerment
From the moment the first whistle blew at Malambanyama Primary School, the spirit of healthy competition and pure joy filled the air. Boys and girls from various schools enthusiastically competed in netball, volleyball, and soccer, showcasing incredible skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Every pass, every shot, every block was met with enthusiastic applause from the sidelines, creating an electrifying atmosphere that uplifted everyone present.
The tournament was a vibrant testament to the power of inclusive sport. We saw young girls dominating the netball court with fierce determination, boys exhibiting strategic prowess in soccer, and mixed teams collaborating seamlessly in volleyball. It was a beautiful demonstration of how sport transcends gender barriers, fostering mutual respect and shared goals.

At Catalyst Foundation, we believe in celebrating every effort and every achievement. As the dust settled and the champions emerged, the excitement reached new heights. All winning teams were proudly awarded brand new sports kits, a tangible reward for their hard work and dedication, and a vital resource to continue their athletic journeys. Beyond team victories, individual brilliance was recognised as MVPs (Most Valuable Players) were celebrated for their outstanding performance and leadership on the field. These moments of recognition are crucial; they inspire not only the recipients but also countless other young people to pursue excellence and believe in their potential.
The impact of the day extended far beyond the prizes. We saw shy children find their voice, hesitant players discover newfound confidence, and rival schools unite in shared moments of joy. The sheer fun and camaraderie experienced by everyone involved were truly infectious, creating memories that will last a lifetime for these Zambian youth.

Looking Ahead: More E.A.G.E.R.S. Impact in Zimbabwe!
The success in Chibombo is just the beginning! We will also be bringing the same energy and empowerment to our districts in Zimbabwe! We will be hosting exciting E.A.G.E.R.S tournaments in Beatrice, Zimbabwe, and Tsholotsho, Zimbabwe, in the last few days of July. We are eagerly anticipating more incredible displays of talent, teamwork, and transformation in these communities.
