Meet Towela Mwiinga

Towela Mwiinga

We would like to introduce Towela to you, and for you to get to know the journey that led to her becoming part of the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme, a little bit more. Towela joined the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme in 2023, as one of our beneficiary’s from the Chibombo district in Zambia. Her favourite subject at school is Mathematics, and her least favourite is Art. Towela’s hobbies include reading novels and taking part in Athletics. Before joining the S.H.E Programme, Towela had numerous barriers that prevented her from going to school and attaining an education. She lives with both her parents and five siblings. Despite her parents farming to earn an income, they are unable to fully meet Towela’s basic needs. Times when the family’s farming projects are not going too well, Towela is unable to go to school. However, when she was able to return to school, she did not have access to stationery supplies, textbooks or a school uniform, making her feel insecure.

After meeting Towela’s teachers at her school, we found out that her academic ability was exceptional, despite her missing numerous days of school at a time. She is a really hard worker, and has a strong passion to be educated. Her teachers believe that with Catalyst Foundation’s support, she has the potential to accomplish phenomenal results in her exams and achieve great things in her future.

Through our holistic support provided to Towela, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to go to school and continue with her education. We provided her with new school uniforms, shoes, a school bag, stationery, textbooks, exercise books, sanitary wear and family food hampers. Our health check examinations carried out, identified that Towela had been suffering with severe stomach pains for some time. From this analysis, we were able to address these pains, and now she is perfectly healthy, and pain free.  Towela’s parents now have peace of mind, knowing that all of her needs are taken care of by the Catalyst Foundation, allowing them to now be able to focus on supporting her siblings as best as they possibly can.

Since joining the S.H.E Programme, Towela has transformed into a confident individual, and is motivated to continue studying hard to complete her studies with flying colours. Once she finishes her secondary schooling, she has dreams of going to university to become a Nurse.

We asked Towela to share with us in one sentence what the

Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme means to her:

“Being supported by the Catalyst Foundation means that I now have a chance to become a Nurse when I grow up and be able to provide for my family because they deserve it.”
