Meet Princess Muchawaya

Princess Muchawaya

We would like to introduce Princess to you, and for you to get to know the journey that led to her becoming part of the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme, a little bit more. Princess joined the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme in 2022, as one of our beneficiary’s from the Beatrice district in Zimbabwe. Before joining the S.H.E Programme, Princess had numerous barriers that prevented her from going to school and attaining an education. Princess’ parents passed away when she was young, leaving her orphaned and in the hands of her elderly grandmother. Due to her grandmother not being financially stable, she is unable to full support her with her basic needs.

Princess was unable to consistently go to school, as her school fees were often not paid. The times when she was able to go back to school, which wasn’t very often, she did not have any stationery supplies, school uniforms, textbooks or exercise books to use in class. Travelling to school daily was also a struggle for her, as she had to walk a very long distance to and from school every day, making her really tired and unable to fully focus on her studies.

After meeting Princess’ teachers at her school, we found out that her grades were below average, due to her often missing numerous days of school at a time. However, with support, her teachers believe that she has the potential to greatly improve her grades over time.

Through our holistic support provided to Princess, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to go to school and continue with her education. Our health check examinations carried out, identified that Princess had an Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). From this analysis, we have now addressed this issue, and she is perfectly healthy. After receiving her new bicycle, Princess is now able to travel to school a lot easier and quicker, allowing her to have more energy to focus on her schoolwork.  Her Grandmother now has peace of mind, now that her needs are taken care of by the Catalyst Foundation.

Once Princess finishes her secondary schooling, she dreams of going to university, but is still deciding on what profession she would like to go into.

We asked Princess to share with us what the

Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme means to her:

“I now have a new family and friends from S.H.E, and we get to do fun things like go to camp. I’m now excited to go to school every day, because I don’t get chased away by my grandmother being unable to pay my school fees.”
