Meet Kitana Mangwato

Kitana Mangwato

We would like to introduce Kitana to you, and for you to get to know the journey that led to her becoming part of the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme, a little bit more. Kitana joined the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme in 2023, as one of our beneficiary’s from the Chibombo district in Zambia. Her favourite subject at school is Mathematics, but finds Social Studies very difficult. Kitana enjoys playing girls Football at school, and she loves to study her school work. Before joining the S.H.E Programme, Kitana had numerous barriers that prevented her from going to school and attaining an education. She currently lives with both her parents and six siblings. Due to both her parents being unemployed, their financial situation was not great, leading them to be unable to full provide for the family’s basic needs, especially when it came to Kitana’s education.

She would sometimes go a few days without any food, and she was unable to consistently go to school, as her parents often struggled to purchase all her school supplies.

After meeting Kitana’s  teachers at her school, we found out that she was incredibly intelligent, despite her missing numerous days of school at a time. Kitana is a really hard worker, always positive, and she never allows her difficult situation to bring her down. Her teachers believe that with Catalyst Foundation’s support, she has the potential to greatly improve her academic ability, and be able to thrive in the classroom.

Through our holistic support provided to Kitana, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to now be able to consistently go to school and continue with her education. We provided Kitana with new school uniforms, shoes, a school bag, stationery, textbooks, exercise books, sanitary wear and family food hampers. Her family now has peace of mind, knowing that all of her needs are taken care of by the Catalyst Foundation, allowing them to be able to focus on supporting the rest of the family and their needs.

Since joining the S.H.E Programme, Kitana has transformed into a confident individual, and is even more motivated to continue studying hard to complete her studies with flying colours. Once she finishes her secondary schooling, she has dreams of going to university to become a Teacher.

We asked Kitana to share with us in one sentence what the

Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme means to her:

“The Catalyst Foundation means everything to me, and I am so grateful to be given another chance to receive an education.”
