Meet Halima Manjata

Halima Manjata

We would like to introduce Halima to you, and for you to get to know the journey that led to her becoming part of the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme, a little bit more. Halima joined the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme in 2023, as one of our beneficiary’s from the Chibombo district in Zambia. Her favourite subject at school is Mathematics, but she does find learning Chitonga (one of Zambia’s local languages) really difficult. She enjoys playing Netball at school. Before joining the S.H.E Programme, Halima had numerous barriers that prevented her from going to school and attaining an education. She lives with both her parents and four siblings. They are both unemployed, and they find it difficult to meet the family’s needs.

Due to Halima’s family’s financial instability, she was unable to go to school for many days on end, as the money brought in by her parents was used for the family to survive on, leaving nothing for Halima’s education. On the days when she did go to school, which was few and far between, she did not have access to stationery supplies, textbooks or a school uniform, making her feel insecure and unable to fully focus on her education.

After meeting Halima’s teachers at her school, we found out that her academic ability was average, mainly due to her missing numerous days of school at a time. She has a soft and compassionate character, with a strong passion to be educated. Her teachers believe that with Catalyst Foundation’s support, she has the potential to improve her academic ability, and thrive in the classroom.

Through our holistic support provided to Halima, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to go to school and continue with her education. We provided her with new school uniforms, shoes, a school bag, stationery, textbooks, exercise books, sanitary wear and family food hampers. Our health check examinations carried out, identified that she had various leg problems. From this analysis, we were able to address this health issue, and now she is perfectly healthy. Halima’s mother now has peace of mind, knowing that her needs are taken care of by the Catalyst Foundation.

Since joining the S.H.E Programme, Halima is now confident and motivated to continue studying hard to complete her studies with flying colours. Once she finishes her secondary schooling, she has dreams of going to university to become a Teacher.

We asked Halima to share with us what the

Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme means to her:

“The S.H.E Family has made me secure, have hope for my future, and has empowered me to be an inspiration to others in my class.”
