Meet Dorcas Nakalumbi

Dorcas Nakalumbi

We would like to introduce Dorcas to you, and for you to get to know the journey that led to her becoming part of the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme, a little bit more. Dorcas joined the Catalyst Foundation – S.H.E Programme in 2023, as one of our beneficiary’s from the Chibombo district in Zambia. Her favourite subject at school is Science, but finds learning the English language very difficult. Dorcas’s favourite sport at school is Netball, and her main hobby is reading novels. Before joining the S.H.E Programme, Dorcas had numerous barriers that prevented her from going to school and attaining an education. She currently lives with both her parents. Due to them being unemployed, they were often unable to make ends meet, especially when it came to Dorcas’ education.

After meeting Dorcas’  teachers at her school, we found out that her academic ability was average, due to her missing numerous school days at a time. She is a hard worker, always cheerful, and she never allows her difficult situation to bring her down. Her teachers believe that with Catalyst Foundation’s support, she has the potential to greatly improve her academic ability, and be able to thrive in the classroom.

Through the holistic support provided to Dorcas, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to now be able to consistently go to school and continue with her education. We provided Dorcas with new school uniforms, shoes, a school bag, stationery, textbooks, exercise books, sanitary wear and family food hampers. Her parents now have peace of mind, knowing that all of her needs are taken care of by the Catalyst Foundation, allowing them to be able to focus on supporting the family and their needs.

Since joining the S.H.E Programme, Dorcas has transformed into a confident individual, who always has a smile on her face, and is motivated to continue studying hard to complete her studies with flying colours. Once she finishes her secondary schooling, she has dreams of going to university to become a Nurse.

We asked Dorcas to share with us in one sentence what Catalyst Foundation’ S.H.E. Programme means to her:

“I feel like I am dreaming because I have never worn a brand-new school uniform or have had a school bag that looks so nice.”
