World Health Day provides us all an opportunity to start collective action to protect people’s health and well-being. This year’s theme is ‘Health For All’ which “envisions that all people have good health for a fulfilling life in a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.”
Did you know that 30% of the global population is unable to access essential health services! The right to health is a basic human right. Everyone must be able to access health services that they need, without having to experience financial hardship.
As Catalyst Foundation, our second pillar of support involves providing health care support to our beneficiaries and their families, as many of them have never been able to receive these services before, due to them being unable to either access or afford them.
Providing this support is vitally important to us as it ensures, together with our other pillars of support, that our beneficiaries are able to fully focus on their education, and for their families to be able to be fit and healthy to provide the care that all members deserve.
Our health care support provided to our beneficiaries include the following:
- Lung function tests,
- ECG (Heart) tests,
- Weight and height checks,
- Blood pressure tests
- Oxygen saturation and pulse rate tests,
- Rapid blood tests for the detection of HIV/AIDS or diabetes,
- Eye and hearing tests, and
- Urine analysis.
Through these tests, we are able to identify any health challenges or learning difficulties that our S.H.E girls may be experiencing, and with the assistance of medical professionals, we are able to formulate individual support plans to tackle these issues.
In addition, our health care support also involves educating our beneficiaries about menstruation and hygiene, along with the provision of sanitary products.
