Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, pursue their passions, and thrive in everything they love doing. However, for many girls, limited access to resources, opportunities, and support can stand in the way of achieving their dreams. Through the SHE Programme, Catalyst Foundation is helping girls overcome these barriers, build confidence, and unlock their potential through sport. Such is the story of Gladmore Nhundu, a SHE programme beneficiary from Beatrice district, Zimbabwe.
Before working with Catalyst foundation, Gladmore faced several challenges in pursuing her passion for sport. Although she had the talent, determination, and enthusiasm to participate, she needed additional support to develop her abilities and reach her full potential. Access to the right sporting resources and encouragement was important in helping her overcome these challenges and build confidence in herself.
By participating in sporting activities coordinated by Catalyst Foundation through the SHE Programme, Gladmore has experienced a remarkable positive change in her sporting journey.
Gladmore says SHE has been supporting her sporting needs, helping her access the assistance and opportunities she needs to participate more actively in sport.
“The SHE programme has helped me realise my full potential. I used to be less active in sport but through initiatives such as EAGERS, I have nurtured my sporting talent to its full potential,” she said.
This support, Gladmore added, has enabled her to focus on improving her skills, building her confidence, and developing a stronger commitment to her chosen sport and hopes that one day she will achieve her goal of becoming a pilot.
“Through all the support that i have received from Catalyst Foundation through the SHE Programme, I do hope that one day I will be able to excel in life and achieve my goals. My dream is to one day become a pilot,” she said.
One of the most significant moments for Gladmore has been her improved participation and performance in a district soccer tournament. With the support she has received, from her school, she has become more confident in her abilities and more motivated to pursue her sporting goals.
Her dedication and hard work have started to pay off, as she now represents her school at district level, a significant achievement that reflects her growth, determination, and potential.
“I recently participated in a district sporting tournament which included other girls from local schools who were selected to play soccer with other districts,” she said.
Playing at district level has not only provided Gladmore with an opportunity to showcase her talent but has also allowed her to gain valuable experience, compete with other talented young athletes, and develop important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and perseverance.
“For me, sport is very important. Sport has taught me discipline, hard work and team work among other things.”
Gladmore’s journey demonstrates the positive impact that investing in girls and supporting their sporting needs can have. Through SHE’s continued support, girls like Gladmore are gaining more than just opportunities to play sport, but also developing confidence courage and determination to work towards a brighter future.
