Event Background:
Many of the girls whom the S.H.E Programme holistically support within Zimbabwe and Zambia, face many barriers that prevent them from attaining an education. In particular, many have to walk long distances of up to 10km, to and from school, every single day.
Last year, we supported our Zimbabwean beneficiaries, where with the funds raised, we were able to purchase bicycles for those who desperately needed them to travel to school with. This impact was incredible thus, this year’s event will see all proceeds raised go towards assisting our Zambian beneficiaries, to overcome their challenges of travelling long distances, so that they are able to go to school safely and barrier-free, just like our Zimbabwean girls.
Two of our beneficiaries, Hellen and Kitana from the Chibombo district in rural Zambia, face various challenges when commuting to school. Hellen has to travel 9km every day, and cross three streams of water. During the rainy season, she is unable to cross the streams, due to them being too full and dangerous, resulting in her having no choice but to stay at home – missing 3 months of school. Kitana’s six kilometre daily journey to school is almost impossible for her to walk as she doesn’t have appropriate foot ware to use, making her commute very painful for her. This list goes on …
Hellen and Kitana are only two of our girls who need us – the remaining twenty beneficiaries in Zambia face similar challenges as well.
Event Conclusion:
Our #SHEWALKS3 event raised £9,402.00 / US$11,851.00!
Before launching our annual #SHEWALKS fundraising event in March this year, our goal was to raise £4,200.00 / US$5,000.00.
Fast forward two months later, through all of our amazing participants generosity (84 participants in total), we have managed to raise an astounding £9,402.00 / US$11,851.00, with 1,500km / 932 miles haven been walked or run!
A MASSIVE thank you goes to all of our enthusiastic supporters who joined in for this year’s S.H.E Walks event. Without your support, we would not have been able to achieve the success that we managed to. In addition to this, thanks go to Catalyst Care Group for sponsoring our vibrant orange shirts.
We look forward to sharing the incredible impact that is going to be created within the lives of our beneficiaries in Zambia, from all the funds raised, with you all soon!
See you all next year for our #SHEWALKS4!
