Due to her family’s financial situation, Anerudo was unable to consistently go to school, as her school fees were often not paid. When she was able to go back to school, which wasn’t very often, she did not have any stationery supplies, textbooks, a school uniform and sanitary wear.
After meeting Anerudo’s teachers at her school, we found out that her grades were below average, as a result of missing so many days of school at a time. However, she does work really hard when she is at school, and her teachers believe that she has the potential to greatly improve her grades over time.
Through our holistic support provided to Anerudo, we were able to remove all of her barriers, allowing her to go to school and continue with her education. Our health check examinations carried out, identified that she had multiple health issues, such as having an Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), high levels of protein in her urine, severe malnutrition and pneumonia. From this analysis, we were able to address these health issues, and she is now perfectly healthy. After conducting our psychosocial assessment with Anerudo, it was identified that she also has a mental learning disorder, where she now receives psychosocial support for, through trained professional psychologists. Her family now has peace of mind, knowing that they do not have to worry about Anerudo’s basic needs which is a huge relief from them, and are now able to focus on raising enough funds, through various activities, to send her six siblings to school.
As part of our additional support offered to Anerudo’s family, their small farming projects are being supported by the Catalyst Foundation, by us providing them with seeds for their fields. This support over time, will allow her family to be able to assist her siblings a lot more.
Anerudo has now progressed to high school, and her academic results continue to improve. Once she finishes her secondary schooling, she has dreams of going to university to become a Nurse.
