That is why we are thrilled to launch our annual Light up a Life Christmas Campaign! This year, we are focused on one critical, immediate need: raising the funds to provide a celebratory Christmas food hamper for every single one of our beneficiaries and their families.
This isn’t just about making the holidays happier; it’s about providing a safety net of nutrition and easing the financial burden on families during the longest school break.
The Story of the Empty Plate
When school closes, the guaranteed nutrition, often provided through school feeding programmes or our own support stops. Suddenly, families struggling with poverty have an extra three weeks to provide for their children with no support. This often leads to hunger, stress, and a struggle for basic survival.
For a girl, this strain is often amplified. If food is scarce, she may be forced to take on extra household chores, seek piece-work, or face heightened vulnerability simply trying to help her family survive the crisis.
The Christmas Hamper changes this narrative.
It is a lifeline packed with nutritious staples like maize meal, cooking oil, beans, and most importantly, a few celebratory treats. It’s a tangible symbol that someone cares, allowing the family to enjoy the festive season with dignity and without the constant anxiety of hunger.
